Arkady N. Murashev (Russia) Arkady Murashev graduated in 1980 from the Moscow Technical University and worked in the Academy of Sciences Institute for High Temperatures from 1980-1989. He has been active in politics since the early days of 'Perestroika' under Gorbachev first coming to prominence in 1989 in the Inter-regional Group of the USSR Congress of People's Deputies (the first democratically elected Soviet Parliament), and subsequently serving in its post-Soviet successor, the State Duma, where he was an active member of Russia's Choice (later Russia's Democratic Choice and now part of the Coalition of Rightwing Forces) together with former Prime Minister Yegor Gaidar. Subsequently, Arkady served as Moscow City Chief of Police from 1991-1992. As a relatively young liberal reformer, in 1990 Arkady founded the Centre for Liberal Conservative Policy, an influential think-tank, which promotes government to business contacts and which he continues to run. Apart from providing political and economic research, the Centre has provided a meeting place for key government politicians and influential Russian business. |
