Thomas S. (Tom) D’Agostino is Chief Operating Officer of the U.S. Industry Coalition (USIC). He has been affiliated with USIC and its role in the Initiatives for Proliferation Prevention (IPP) program of the National Nuclear Security Administration at the U.S. Department of Energy and its predecessor organizations since its inception in the early 1990’s. USIC together with their partners in the former Soviet Union, USIC companies have succeeded in commercializing nearly 35 high-technology products and services, with over 130 more IPP projects in development. Mr. D’Agostino has enjoyed a distinguished career as a highly regarded expert in nuclear weapons testing, arms control and nuclear nonproliferation. He served as the U.S. Department of Energy representative on several U.S. delegations involved with negotiating, bilateral and multilateral treaties on nuclear weapons and chemical weapons. As a senior executive in the Department of Energy he directed programs on nuclear weapons testing, safeguarding of nuclear materials and facilities, and the classification of national security information. Prior to his USIC position, Mr. D’Agostino oversaw arms control and nonproliferation activities involving scientists and engineers at DOE national laboratories. In the many positions he held within the DOE, he formulated policy development and field implementation of nuclear weapons and other national security programs. As senior DOE representative, Mr. D’Agostino played an important role in U.S. efforts that led to successful conclusion of the Threshold Test Ban, and Peaceful Nuclear Explosions Treaties, and the Chemical Weapons Convention. In this role, he was instrumental in implementing the U.S. unilateral nuclear initiatives with the Soviet Union, in 1991. Mr. D’Agostino is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon and Stanford
University where he holds degrees in Engineering. |
